Detailed Vitamin D3 Dosing

Yes, I’m hung up on Vitamin D, but the more I research the more I discover that Vitamin D deficiency is a major health issue. Insufficient D is at the root of a majority of medical conditions and all but a few of us would benefit from taking a daily supplement.

Adults would do well taking 5,000 to 10,000 units of a quality Vitamin D3 every day – and more when they feel “something coming on” or when they are exposed to poor health situations; crowds of coughing and sneezing people transmit all sorts of bacteria and viruses.

When you need a boost, take larger amounts of Vitamin D3 to strengthen resistance. How much?

These days I’m suggesting 1,000 units of Vitamin D3 for every one pound of body weight for 3 to 5 days. Divide the daily amount into 2 to 3 doses.

  • A 200 pound person, for example, would want to take 200,000 units in divided doses daily for 3 to 5 days (two of the 50,000 unit capsules in the morning and 2 at night).
  • Someone who weighs 135 pounds would take 135,000 units in divided doses, probably using a combination of 50,000 and 5,000 unit capsules.

Rounding UP is fine. For example, if you weigh 187 pounds, round the number of units up to 190,000 units – or even 200,000. A few extra units of Vitamin D3 over 3 to 5 days aren’t going to cause any harm. Each 1,000 units is a mere 0.025mg (0.000025grams).

Vitamin D3 50,000 Units per capsule (equivalent to 1.25mg).

Vitamin D3 5,000 Units per capsule (equivalent to 0.125mg).
